Are There Therapeutic Approaches Targeting Promoter Methylation?
Targeting promoter methylation is a promising therapeutic strategy in cancer treatment. DNA methyltransferase inhibitors (DNMTi) like azacitidine and decitabine are currently used in the treatment of some hematological malignancies. These drugs inhibit DNA methyltransferases, leading to the reactivation of silenced tumor suppressor genes. Ongoing research aims to develop more specific and effective epigenetic therapies for a broader range of cancers.
