How Do Cancer Treatments Impact Cardiovascular Health?
Certain cancer treatments are known for their cardiotoxic effects. For instance, anthracyclines, a class of chemotherapy drugs, are well-known for causing cardiomyopathy and heart failure. Similarly, radiation therapy to the chest can lead to damage of the heart valves, myocardium, and coronary arteries, increasing the risk of CVD.
