CD8+ T cells recognize cancer cells through the interaction with major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules presented on the surface of nearly all nucleated cells. Cancer cells often present abnormal peptides on their MHC class I molecules, which can be recognized by the T cell receptor (TCR) on CD8+ T cells. This recognition is crucial for the T cells to identify and target cancer cells.
