Cancer can affect the suprahyoid muscles either directly or indirectly. Direct involvement occurs when tumors originate in or metastasize to these muscles. Indirect involvement happens when tumors in adjacent areas, such as the oral cavity, pharynx, or larynx, extend into the suprahyoid region. This can lead to symptoms such as difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), pain, and reduced mobility of the tongue and neck.
