MHC Class II molecules present peptides derived from extracellular proteins. These peptides are processed in the endosomal/lysosomal pathway and then loaded onto MHC Class II molecules. The MHC-peptide complex is then transported to the cell surface, where it can be recognized by CD4+ T cells, leading to their activation.
