Cancer cells often exploit protein degradation pathways to their advantage. For instance, the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) is a major pathway for protein degradation in cells. In cancer, the UPS can be hijacked to degrade tumor suppressor proteins, leading to uncontrolled cell proliferation. Conversely, the stability of oncogenic proteins can be enhanced by impairing their degradation, promoting tumor growth and survival.
