How Effective is Nystatin in Treating Fungal Infections in Cancer Patients?
Nystatin is highly effective in treating localized fungal infections, especially in the oral cavity and gastrointestinal tract. Clinical studies have shown that it significantly reduces the incidence and severity of oral candidiasis in cancer patients. However, its effectiveness is limited to superficial infections, as it is not absorbed into the bloodstream. For systemic fungal infections, other antifungal agents such as fluconazole or voriconazole may be required.
