Engraftment is monitored through regular blood tests that measure the count of various blood cells, including white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. A rising count of these cells usually indicates successful engraftment. In some cases, a bone marrow biopsy may be performed to confirm the presence of newly growing cells.
