The BCR (Breakpoint Cluster Region) and ABL (Abelson murine leukemia viral oncogene homolog) genes are two genes that, when fused together, play a pivotal role in the development of certain types of cancer, most notably chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). The BCR gene is located on chromosome 22, while the ABL gene is found on chromosome 9. The fusion of these genes results in the formation of the BCR-ABL oncogene.
