luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (lhrh) agonists or antagonists

What are LHRH Agonists?

LHRH agonists are compounds that initially stimulate the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the pituitary gland. This leads to a temporary surge in sex hormone levels (testosterone in men and estrogen in women), followed by a downregulation of LH and FSH receptors. Over time, this results in a significant decrease in sex hormone levels, effectively creating a chemical castration. Common LHRH agonists include leuprolide, goserelin, and triptorelin.
