What Are the Limitations of DNA Markers in Cancer?
While DNA markers offer numerous benefits, they also have limitations:
1. Complexity: Cancer is often caused by multiple genetic changes, making it difficult to pinpoint a single marker responsible for the disease. 2. Heterogeneity: Tumors can be heterogeneous, with different genetic profiles within the same tumor or between primary and metastatic sites. 3. False Positives/Negatives: There is a risk of false-positive or false-negative results, which can lead to incorrect diagnoses or inappropriate treatments.
