It may not capture all symptoms experienced by patients, particularly those that are less common or specific to certain cancer types. Some patients may find it difficult to quantify their symptoms using a numerical scale. The tool requires patients to have the cognitive ability to understand and complete it, which may not be possible for all individuals.
Despite these limitations, the ESAS remains an essential component of palliative care in oncology.
