Radiation toxicity can be classified into two main types: acute and chronic.
- Acute Radiation Toxicity: These are side effects that occur during or immediately after radiation therapy and typically resolve within a few weeks. Common symptoms include skin irritation, fatigue, nausea, and localized pain.
- Chronic Radiation Toxicity: These effects appear months to years after treatment and can be permanent. Examples include fibrosis, organ dysfunction, and secondary cancers.
