What Challenges Exist in CTL-Based Cancer Therapy?
Despite their potential, several challenges hinder the effectiveness of CTL-based therapies:
Tumor Microenvironment: The tumor microenvironment can be immunosuppressive, containing cells and factors that inhibit CTL activity. Antigen Escape: Cancer cells can mutate and lose the antigens that CTLs recognize, allowing them to evade immune detection. Toxicity: Enhancing CTL activity can sometimes lead to off-target effects and damage to normal tissues, causing significant side effects.
