If a cancer patient misses the AEP, they may have to wait until the next enrollment period to make changes. However, certain qualifying life events, such as a change in marital status, moving to a new area, or losing other health coverage, may trigger a Special Enrollment Period (SEP), allowing changes outside the AEP.
