A sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is a less invasive procedure where only the first few lymph nodes (sentinel nodes) that drain the area around the primary tumor are removed and examined for cancer cells. If these nodes are free of cancer, it is likely that the cancer has not spread to other lymph nodes, sparing the patient from a more extensive surgery.
