Distal cholangiocarcinoma is a type of cholangiocarcinoma or bile duct cancer that occurs in the portion of the bile ducts closer to the small intestine. The bile ducts are a series of thin tubes that transport bile from the liver and gallbladder to the small intestine, aiding in digestion. Distal cholangiocarcinoma specifically affects the bile ducts outside the liver, known as the extrahepatic bile ducts.
