What is Kaposi's Sarcoma Associated Herpesvirus (KSHV)?
Kaposi's Sarcoma Associated Herpesvirus (KSHV), also known as Human Herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8), is a member of the herpesvirus family. It is the causative agent of several types of cancers, most notably Kaposi's sarcoma (KS). KSHV is also associated with primary effusion lymphoma (PEL) and multicentric Castleman's disease (MCD). The virus can remain latent in the body and become active under certain conditions, such as immunosuppression.
