Oropharyngeal cancer is a type of head and neck cancer that develops in the oropharynx, the middle part of the throat. This area includes the back third of the tongue, the soft palate, the tonsils, and the walls of the pharynx. Oropharyngeal cancer is often associated with the presence of the human papillomavirus (HPV) and can also be linked to tobacco use and excessive alcohol consumption.
