Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 5, commonly known as STAT5, is a part of the STAT family of transcription factors. These proteins are critical players in the cellular response to cytokines and growth factors. STAT5 exists in two highly homologous forms, STAT5A and STAT5B, and is activated by phosphorylation through the Janus kinase (JAK) pathway. Once activated, STAT5 translocates to the cell nucleus where it binds to specific DNA sequences, regulating the expression of genes involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival.
