The ENCODE (Encyclopedia of DNA Elements) Project is an international collaboration of research groups funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI). Its primary aim is to identify all functional elements in the human genome. This includes genes, regulatory elements, and other important genomic features that play a role in gene expression and regulation.
