What is the relationship between PARP enzymes and cancer?
In cancer, the DNA repair mechanisms are often compromised, leading to genomic instability and uncontrolled cell proliferation. Some tumors, particularly those with BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations, are highly dependent on PARP-mediated DNA repair due to their defective homologous recombination repair pathway. Inhibiting PARP in these cancer cells can lead to the accumulation of DNA damage, ultimately causing cell death.
