Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) refers to a group of bacterial strains of the genus Enterococcus that have developed resistance to the antibiotic vancomycin. These bacteria are normally found in the human intestines and female genital tract, but can cause serious infections, especially in individuals with compromised immune systems.
