What Oral Health Issues Are Common in Cancer Patients?
Cancer patients often face a variety of oral health issues. Mucositis, which is inflammation and ulceration of the mouth lining, is a common side effect of chemotherapy. Xerostomia or dry mouth can result from radiation therapy targeting the head and neck, reducing saliva production and increasing the risk of cavities and infections. Additionally, oral thrush, a fungal infection, can occur due to a weakened immune system.
