Biomarkers are biological molecules found in blood, other body fluids, or tissues that signify the presence of cancer. Enhanced detection methods involve the identification of specific biomarkers that correlate strongly with particular types of cancer. For example, the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test for prostate cancer and the CA-125 test for ovarian cancer are well-known biomarker tests. Ongoing research aims to discover new biomarkers that can detect cancer even earlier and more accurately.
