The human microbiome, consisting of trillions of microorganisms that live in and on our bodies, is another frontier of cancer research. Emerging evidence suggests that the microbiome may influence cancer development, progression, and response to treatment. However, the exact mechanisms by which the microbiome affects cancer biology are still largely unknown.
