What types of Cancer are associated with MLH1 mutations?
MLH1 mutations are most commonly associated with Lynch syndrome, also known as hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC). Besides colorectal cancer, Lynch syndrome increases the risk of other cancers, including endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer, gastric cancer, and urinary tract cancers. Sporadic (non-hereditary) cases of colorectal and endometrial cancers can also exhibit MLH1 hypermethylation, leading to its silencing.
