Not all patients are suitable candidates for skin sparing mastectomy. Ideal candidates typically include those with early-stage breast cancer, ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), or those undergoing prophylactic mastectomy due to high genetic risk (such as BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations). Patients with skin involvement by the cancer, inflammatory breast cancer, or certain other conditions may not be eligible for SSM.
