Cancer heterogeneity refers to the genetic and phenotypic diversity within a tumor. This heterogeneity poses a significant challenge for treatment because different subclones of cancer cells may respond differently to therapy. Targeting a single molecular pathway may not be sufficient to eradicate all cancer cells, leading to treatment resistance and disease recurrence.
