While inner hair cells themselves are not commonly the primary site for cancer development, they can be indirectly affected by cancer treatments. For instance, certain chemotherapy drugs and radiation therapy used to treat head and neck cancers can result in ototoxicity, leading to damage of the inner hair cells.
