Cancer cells have a unique relationship with blood vessels. They can stimulate the formation of new blood vessels through a process called angiogenesis. This allows the tumor to receive the oxygen and nutrients it needs to grow and spread. Tumors release signals that activate nearby blood vessels to sprout new branches that infiltrate the tumor mass.
