Carcinomas develop when the DNA within epithelial cells becomes damaged, leading to mutations that disrupt normal cell growth and division. This can result in uncontrolled cell proliferation, forming a mass or tumor. Over time, these abnormal cells can invade surrounding tissues and spread to other parts of the body, a process known as metastasis.
