TLRs function as sentinels of the immune system. They are expressed on the surface of immune cells such as macrophages and dendritic cells. Upon recognizing specific PAMPs, TLRs activate signaling pathways that lead to the production of cytokines and other inflammatory mediators. This ultimately helps in the recruitment of immune cells to the site of infection or injury.
