However, as they accumulate more genetic mutations, they gain the ability to invade nearby tissues and penetrate the bloodstream or lymphatic system, leading to metastasis. Metastatic cancer cells can establish secondary tumors in distant organs, complicating treatment and worsening the prognosis.
