Cancer can lead to hepatic dysfunction through several mechanisms. Primary liver cancers, such as hepatocellular carcinoma, originate in the liver itself and can directly impair its function. Secondary, or metastatic, cancers spread to the liver from other parts of the body and can similarly disrupt its normal activities.
