In frozen section analysis, a small part of the excised tissue is frozen and thinly sliced. The slices are then stained and examined under a microscope by a pathologist. This process typically takes about 20-30 minutes and provides immediate feedback to the surgeon about whether cancer cells are present at the tissue margins. If cancer cells are found, additional tissue may be removed during the same surgical session.
