GH exerts its effects by binding to the growth hormone receptor (GHR) on target cells. This binding activates a cascade of intracellular signaling pathways, including the JAK-STAT pathway, which ultimately leads to the production of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). IGF-1 mediates many of the growth-promoting effects of GH, including cell proliferation and inhibition of apoptosis.
