The infiltration of cancer cells in the bone marrow disrupts normal hematopoiesis. This can result in anemia, due to decreased red blood cell production; thrombocytopenia, due to reduced platelet production; and leukopenia or leukocytosis, due to an imbalance in white blood cell production. Patients may experience symptoms such as fatigue, increased susceptibility to infections, and bleeding or bruising easily.
