The data generated by TCGA has significantly advanced our understanding of the molecular underpinnings of cancer. For example, TCGA has identified new driver mutations and pathways involved in cancer progression, revealed the heterogeneity within and between cancer types, and uncovered novel subtypes of cancer with distinct molecular profiles. These insights have led to the development of new diagnostic tools and targeted therapies, and have informed clinical trials and treatment strategies.
