How Effective Are Preventive Services in Reducing Cancer Incidence?
Preventive services have been shown to be highly effective in reducing cancer incidence and mortality. For example, widespread use of the Pap smear has significantly reduced the incidence of cervical cancer. Similarly, colorectal cancer screenings have led to decreased deaths from this disease. Vaccinations like the HPV vaccine have the potential to nearly eliminate cervical cancer when administered widely.
