One of the most severe complications of chronic HCV infection is the development of liver cancer, particularly hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Chronic inflammation caused by HCV can lead to liver cirrhosis, which significantly increases the risk of developing HCC. Moreover, HCV has been associated with other types of cancers, such as non-Hodgkin lymphoma and potentially other extrahepatic malignancies.
