How is Liver Cancer Linked to Severe Liver Disease?
Liver cancer, particularly hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), often arises in the context of pre-existing severe liver disease. Chronic liver conditions, such as cirrhosis or hepatitis B and C infections, significantly increase the risk of developing liver cancer. The damaged liver cells are more prone to mutations, leading to cancerous growths. Conversely, primary liver cancer can further deteriorate liver function, exacerbating the severity of liver disease.
