inflammatory polyps

What are Inflammatory Polyps?

Inflammatory polyps, also known as pseudopolyps, are benign growths that arise in the lining of the gastrointestinal tract, particularly in areas affected by chronic inflammation. These growths are typically composed of granulation tissue and are often associated with conditions like ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Unlike adenomatous polyps, inflammatory polyps are not considered precursors to colorectal cancer, but their presence can indicate an increased risk of cancer due to the underlying inflammatory condition.
