What Are the Complications of DVT in Cancer Patients?
Complications of DVT can be severe and include:
- Pulmonary Embolism (PE): If a clot breaks loose and travels to the lungs, it can cause a life-threatening condition known as a pulmonary embolism. - Post-thrombotic Syndrome (PTS): Long-term complications such as chronic pain, swelling, and ulceration can occur in the affected limb. - Recurrent DVT: Cancer patients are at a higher risk of recurrent DVT even after initial treatment.
