Despite its advantages, the TRAP assay has some limitations:
- False Positives/Negatives: Non-specific amplification can lead to false results. - Complexity: The assay requires careful optimization and controls to ensure accuracy. - Inhibition: Some components in samples can inhibit PCR, affecting the results. - Not Universally Applicable: While effective in many cancers, the assay does not work well with all cancer types, particularly those with alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT) mechanisms.
