- Sigmoid colostomy: The most common type, created at the sigmoid colon. - Descending colostomy: Located on the lower left side of the abdomen. - Transverse colostomy: Positioned in the upper abdomen, either in the middle or on the right side. - Ascending colostomy: Created on the right side of the abdomen, less common.
