Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS) is a rare but serious condition characterized by the triad of microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and acute kidney injury. It primarily affects the small blood vessels, causing clots that can lead to significant organ damage. HUS commonly occurs following a gastrointestinal infection with Escherichia coli O157:H7, but it can also be associated with other medical conditions, including cancer.
