HTLV is a member of the deltaretrovirus family. There are four types of HTLV, but HTLV-1 is the most studied due to its oncogenic potential. HTLV-1 is endemic in certain regions, including parts of Japan, the Caribbean, and Africa. The virus is primarily transmitted through breastfeeding, sexual contact, and blood transfusions.
