Local relapse, also known as local recurrence, refers to the return of cancer at the same site where the original tumor was located or very close to it. This can occur after the initial treatment, which may have included surgery, radiation, or other therapies aimed at eradicating the primary tumor. Unlike metastasis, which involves the spread of cancer to distant parts of the body, local relapse is confined to the original region.
