Metastatic cancer, also known as stage IV cancer, occurs when cancer cells spread from the primary site to other parts of the body. This process is known as metastasis. These cancer cells invade the bloodstream or lymphatic system, allowing them to establish new tumors in distant organs such as the liver, lungs, brain, or bones.
